Liam Lawson is facing a major challenge as he takes on what many consider "the hardest seat in Formula 1" – competing against Max Verstappen to secure his future in the sport.
Red Bull confirmed on Thursday that the 22-year-old New Zealand driver will join Verstappen as his teammate in 2025.
Sergio Perez, Verstappen’s longest-serving teammate, was dropped after four seasons due to struggles during the final 18 months of his time with the team. Prior to Perez, Pierre Gasly lasted just 12 races, while Alex Albon was let go after just over a season alongside Verstappen.
Even before them, Daniel Ricciardo, once regarded as one of the best on the grid, chose to leave for Renault, frustrated by Red Bull's focus on building the team around Verstappen.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner recently told Sky Sports News, "Driving alongside Max is the hardest seat in Formula 1, because he is the best driver on the grid. A four-time world champion and a generational talent, you almost have to block out what’s happening in his car to avoid adding pressure to yourself."
